Carolyn moved to Italy in 1997 with the intention of learning Italian and staying for just six months. The time flew and six months proved too little time to learn Italian, or close the book on this special chapter in her life.
She enrolled in an International MBA program in Rome in 1998, the same year she met her future husband, Massimo Papetti. Upon graduation, she began managing a tour company of Rome, and in 2001, started her own online travel agency called DestinationItalia.com. In 2002, she earned her Sommelier certification with the Associazione Italiana Sommeliers (AIS).
Carolyn and Massimo were married in Portovenere in 2006.
Carolyn and Massimo later moved to East Hampton, NY (Carolyn's home town) and began running Italian restaurants. Carolyn ran the iconic Nick & Toni's Restaurant for several years and Massimo ran the local favorite, Cittanuova Restaurant. Their family of two became a family of four as they welcomed first born Francesco in 2008, and second born, Luca in 2011. (Photo taken in Italy but NOT our Ferrari!)
The Papettis return to Italy and visit family as often as possible. Francesco and Luca work on their Italian, play soccer with the locals and discover a new region of Italy with each trip the family takes.
In 2018, Carolyn and Massimo finally opened their own restaurant!
I'm Eddie Cano (say it fast) is located in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington, DC. The Papettis live nearby and their children attend school a block from the restaurant.
The Italian Local is the Papetti's latest partnership.
Carolyn's two decades of Italian adventures and Massimo's native hospitalian-ness combine to offer clients a truly customized and memorable trip to anywhere on the Italian Peninsula.
